PrEPDirect

Request your PrEP prescription online and get it sent to you by post.

You can order your PrEP prescription from axess sexual health via our online hub.

To order PrEP by post, you have to meet the following criteria:

  • You live in Liverpool local authority (Warrington, Halton, Knowsley and Cheshire East will follow soon)
  • You've tested for HIV in the past four weeks
  • You are over 18 years of age.

How to order PrEP

Step 1

Make sure that you meet the criteria listed above.

If you have not tested for HIV in the past four weeks, order a test kit through our website, book an appointment to visit your local axess clinic, or visit our walk-in during opening times to get tested.

Step 2

When you have your HIV test results, visit our Lilie Hub and click PrEPDirect to complete an online request form. PrEPDirect can also be found under the "other services" tab.

Step 3

The axess sexual health team will assess your records and your request form. You may be contacted for further information if needed and further tests (such as hepatitis and kidney tests) may be organised.

Step 4

If there's nothing else we require from you, we'll prescribe you with three months of PrEP. If you require a kidney or hepatitis B test, we'll provide you with the amount of PrEP you require for the time between your next visit to our clinic or your blood test.

PrEP is sent via Royal Mail and should take two to five working days to arrive. Click here to watch a video which explains how to take PrEP.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use this service if I've never had PrEP before?

Yes. Your details will be assessed by a clinician and, if it's safe to do so, we'll provide you with PrEP.

In some circumstances, we'll need you to come into an axess clinic, visit a phlebotomy (blood taking) clinic, or complete some extra postal blood tests prior to being able to provide you with PrEP.

What do I do if I'm about to run out of PrEP, and my order hasn't been delivered yet?

Visit your local axess sexual health clinic during walk-in opening hours and let our Reception Team know you've run out of PrEP.

What else may I require to protect my sexual health?

PrEP is just one way to protect your sexual health. It's likely you are eligible for other treatments to lower your risk of infections.

These treatments include:

  • Hepatitis A and B vaccination
  • HPV vaccination
  • Gonorrhoea (4CMenB) vaccination
  • DoxyPEP (syphilis prevention)
  • MPox vaccination.

These must be accessed via a face-to-face appointment.

Will I always be able to access PrEP online?

In some circumstances, so that we can provide PrEP safely, we'll ask you to book a face-to-face appointment, or contact you by phone for more information.

Please be aware that PrEP Direct is a new service. There will be times where we reach capacity and will ask you to book a face-to-face appointment at our PrEP Express clinic.

What do I do if I'm close to running out of PrEP?

If you have less than two weeks of PrEP left, we recommend you book a face-to-face appointment with us.

How do I take PrEP?

There are two types of dosing for PrEP: daily dosing and event-based dosing.
