Our emergency walk-in criteria:

  • I have painful genital ulcers and/or need repeat medication. (Herpes)
  • I need emergency contraception
  • I have had unprotected sex in the last 72 hours with someone at high risk of HIV and may require PEP
  • I am currently taking PEP
  • I am here for syphilis treatment
  • I have been sexually assaulted
  • I am 16 or under
  • I have been diagnosed with an STI via online or another service and require treatment.
  • I have pain in my testicles
  • IUD/S Problems: Pain/bleeding/lost threads
  • Implant Problems:

Pain/altered sensation with implant

Redness, swelling, oozing with implant

Unable to feel implant

Emergency contraception

If you have had unprotected sex and need emergency contraception, you can walk in to an axess clinic under the urgent criteria or find your local pharmacy here. PLEASE NOTE: Not all pharmacies offer emergency contraception for free so we advise that you call first to find out. Emergency contraception is also available from GPs, NHS walk-in centres and A&E departments - although there may be long waiting times.


Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP)

If you think you have been exposed to HIV within the last 72hrs don’t wait for us to be open, go straight to A&E. The sooner you start taking it the more likely it is to prevent HIV.
