If we are closed and you have an urgent problem you have a number of options. Don't forget you can order postal testing kits at any time by visiting here

When Liverpool Phone Lines are closed:

There are times when the Liverpool telephone triage line is closed earlier than advertised opening times

If you need to see us in an emergency, you can still walk in to the Royal Liverpool and Beat site during normal opening times

Our emergency walk-in criteria:

  • Patients under the age of 16
  • Concerns of potential HIV exposure (contact within the last 72 hours)
  • Emergency contraception needed (unprotected sexual intercourse within the last 5 days)
  • If you have been sexually assaulted
  • If you have had a positive STI result and have not been booked in for treatment

Emergency contraception

If you have had unprotected sex and need emergency contraception you can walk in to an axess clinic under the urgent criteria or find your local pharmacy here. Emergency contraception is also available from GPs/walk-in centres.

Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP)

If you think you have been exposed to HIV within the last 72hrs don’t wait for us to be open, go straight to A&E. The sooner you start taking it the more likely it is to prevent HIV.

For more information on PEP please visit the Terrance Higgins Trust Website here
